No fucking tip on a take out order. That's the rules lol.

Tips in general have rules that don't make sense. If they wanna complain about take outs having no tips, then we're just as justified in contesting the tips rule in general. Should be the restaurant's job to determine the worth of their service. The thing is, the quality of the service and the payoff of that service isn't guaranteed for servers because the tip happens after. If the restaurants really want to guarantee a certain quality, they should give them a raise rather than just filling in the blanks with dubious tips which a lot of cultures give extremely varying rates

Take out is way harder than serving. Serving, you usually have like 2-5 tables max at the same time and you never get them all at the same time.

You can get like 10+ orders at once on a busy night in take out and the phone will just keep ringing... and ringing... it never ends. It is really stressful.

I'm so sick of hearing servers bitching about tips. Nobody who skips on a tip gives a shit when you post on facebook, it just annoys us who do tip and makes your establishment look bad.

Because it's a corporate chain and not a small business, and they probably have the church valued at something like $100k+ lifetime worth. So refunding is the cheapest thing to do in order to keep them returning.

Shut the fuck up. You're comparing apples to oranges. Compare one takeout to one table. Not 10+ to 2. That makes no sense.

Doesn't surprise me that church didn't tip.

They should give her 10% of that refund if they genuinely just wanted to resolve the issue.
hey I used to work at an Outback
take out window was reserved for the best, it's usually way more happening

Should she have been fired? Yep. They made it clear what their policy was and she violated it.

Was she right? Yep. Fuck those people for not ponying up a tip on a fucking seven hundred dollar order. That deserves a twenty-spot at least.

I tip for sitdown or delivery, not for pickup. What's next, tipping the fast food drive through window?

Fair, next. That's a pretty big can of worms to open up when an employee is publicly calling out customers by name on social media. No restaurant is going to want to deal with that type of negative publicity.

Lol you seem weirdly upset about that..

"one takeout" doesn't really happen. you have phones ringing at all times, food to put together, customers to greet in the parking lot
I also don't tip for carry out. Is that normal? What is the tip for? They aren't serving me or delivering to me

I dont tip for takeout and I don't tip delivery drivers if there is a delivery fee.

That's an employee and employer issue IMO

Well for this case it was $735 worth of food.

That's a pretty decent amount of food. Sounds like she took it out to the car and helped store it away.

But to me it's more the fact that a church, a place that believes in giving, didn't tip

Maybe she should of got warned instead of fired. Depending on how obvious they make that social media rule

The reason why you should tip is because of the cost.

Yeah don't tip on your 20 dollar pick up. But almost 1k worth of food? Some of you don't understand. Packed restaurant with a wait.and now imagine getting 700 dollars worth of food to prepare in the hour. All the prep time and every thing else in getting it ready

Nah. Food costs already factor in labor outside of the waiter. And if they don't well then that's not my issue.

Thats a big issue, because why the hell should the customer care about how something works in the back ground. At least a waiter is in your face talking to you when you have a menu or receipt that has tip suggestions. Heck, restaurants should make it clearer that they only get paid a Pepsi an hour to be there

I don't normally tip for takeout, but I think it'd be different for an exceptionally large order like that. It sounds more like a catering order than takeout.

Still, it was fair to fire her for calling them out publicly

I highly doubt the restaurant only got the call an hour before. Most places make you call 24 hours in advance for significantly large orders. They can't just pull the product/production out of their asses in an hour.

Iunno, might be an especially slow night and out the blue someone drops money in your lap. Its like a typical Wednesday and then all the sudden the out of town baseball team rolls up in their bus...es.

Yeah it’s a huge pain in the ass. Often times the time spent on the phone is quite a lot for so much food and the amount of stuff to do is a lot especially if the guest has a lot of special requests.

On a busy day getting a huge catering order can completely fuck me over.

Super fair super next

1. You don't tip on takeout
2. The only reason the church was picking it up was because Outback failed to deliver it on time... Its fucking absurd for the girl to expect a tip when its the restaurant that completely dropped the ball. Outback should have given them some free sides or a discount on their next order for the inconvenience
3. "Its a lot of work". Really? Its a lot of work for you? How about for the people who fucking cooked the food and wouldn't have gotten any of the tip

Bitch deserved to get fired and the story illustrates everything wrong with tipping culture.

I mean, at least for Outback of course, they are taking your order over phone the way a server would, they are packaging and bringing the food to you at your vehicle the way a server would, the take and bring back payment type the way a server would

depends how much you ask of a server generally, but only thing different for me is time and a few drinks/refills maybe

so I suppose it depends on how you value those
And in an infinite regress, tell me, why is the pain of birth lighter borne than the pain of death?

That being said, I agree with what some are saying in here. Normally I don't tip for takeout but if I ever placed an enormous order like that, you bet your ass I would. That's a pain in the ass to fulfill on the restaurant's behalf.
