yeah, it's cray. I used to work there and people would always bitch that we didn't do 5 dollar footlongs anymore. I mean that was years ago so you'd have to be stupid to ask for one but 6 bucks for a 6" ham sandwich is still laughable. No reason to eat at Subway anymore. THere's always a better fastfood option nearby.

Fast food in general has been overpriced as fuck for a while. There are some decent items, like mcdonalds's $1 mcchicken, but overall fast food costs too much to be worth it.

I haven't been to a Subway in a long time.
I usually go for Which Wich now, which is also pretty pricey but I feel is a more hearty meal.

how does a business model work 101:
1) Establish a highly efficient supply chain that minimizes your cost per product. 2) Sell your product at near-zero margin to destroy your competition, who cannot afford to operate at the same price. 3) Drive them into bankruptcy. 4) Expand and fill the void of market left by their destruction. 5) Jack up the prices and dare your customers to eat elsewhere. If I want a sub, I go to WaWa.

Yeah fast food in general has been rising in price.
Fast Casual restaurants tend to be a better deal, because they only charge a little bit more, but they are significantly better in quality. You can also expect much better service too. Subway mostly sucks because of the emergence of Jimmy John's, Erbert and Gerbert's, Milio's, Which Wich, Potbelly's, and Jersey Mikes. All of these places offer a significantly higher quality sandwich for only a little bit more. Before they were around it was harder to see how crappy Subway was. Now it is extremely obvious to everyone. Subway by far has the lowest quality of ingredients across the board from the bread to the veggies and everything inbetween.

Did you guys know that their bread also has a chemical found in horse urine? It's totally true because someone so ignorant of science they think that air is normally 100% Oxygen but those evil airline companies pump nitrogen in there to save money told me so.

I remember last year, I went into a Subway and everything was $5's. I bought their sweet onion chicken teriyaki and it was decent for the price. I mean I never went back, but it was basically planned B when my favorite Banh Mi place was closed for the day.

Deli meat and cheeses are expensive and go bad fast. Unless you are in the mood for sandwiches all week they aren't worth the cost of always have fresh ingredients around to make yourself a sandwich a few times a week.

$1 for a baguette
$7 for a lb of ribeye on special at Krogers. $ 0.77 for an onion $0.80 for a bell better Top tier french dip, assuming you got some beef stock on hand. Less than $10 and the primary expense is in quality beef. If you're willing to cut corners and buy bulk, obviously you could bring the price down a shit ton. But that's a sandwich about the same price, without having to wholesale the cost down and invest in multiple sandwiches.

I just got a $5 footlong today and it's 2 meals. Stop acting like there's not cheaper options at Subway.
If you can make a better sandwich for that price then just do it. I don't get the point of this topic. 8 bucjs for a sub isn't even much.

You guys are lucky to ever have had the $5 footlong. In Hawaii it started out as a $6 footlong, and now even the cheapo cold cut combo is around $7.50-$9 depending on location/owner.

$5 foot long promo also started 10 years ago. You can't expect them to keep that price forever. Jack In the Box tacos are now $1.20 . Little Ceasar's "Hot N Ready" are $6.
